Klimaattop 2016 – Waar is het Mea Culpa?

Rutte grijpt de kans en het podium om zijn homies bij Shell en Schiphol op de valreep nog even klimaat-Salonfähig te maken. Op de klimaattop kregen de grootste vervuilers even de zeepkist om aandacht te vragen voor het feit dat de overheid nu EINDELIJK eens met consistent beleid moet komen (en graag zakken vol geld).

Ik ben er echt doodziek van. Ik weet eigenlijk niet zo goed hoe ik het precies moet zeggen dus maar wat flarden die door m’n hoofd schieten.

– Schiphol faciliteert energieverspilling op een epische schaal, we hebben geen fuck aan LED-verlichting in de aankomsthal, we moeten stoppen met feesten op Ibiza. Schiphol dat z’n handtekening zet onder 95% reductie in 2050, het is gewoon niet geloofwaardig. We moeten de Haarlemmermeer beplanten met eiken en alle landingsbanen volzetten met zonnepanelen.

– Shell heeft 1% van alle CO2 uitstoot in de geschiedenis op zijn geweten en heeft recent nog aangeveven dat ze ALLE olie en gas dat in hun velden zit op zullen pompen. Marjan van Loon was daar alleen maar om toekomstige subsidies veilig te stellen, niet om sorry te zeggen en vrijwillig aan te bieden dat ze een olieproductietaks willen gaan betalen.

– Wat moeten bedrijven als Nuon, Engie en Eneco daar? We moeten wetten aannemen waardoor onze pensioenpot wordt ingezet voor klimaatneutraal wonen en windparken op zee in handen van de burgers. We hebben alle geld dat nodig is om het te realiseren, het zit nu alleen geïnvesteerd in Shell-aandelen.

– We weten al sinds Kyoto wat er nodig is en meer dan 39 van de 40 bedrijven die daar stonden hebben miljoenen/jarden aan lobbyisten betaald om op Nederlands, Europees en wereldniveau te voorkomen dat er effectief klimaatbeleid gevoerd zou gaan worden.

– Waarom moet de overheid voor al die stimulering zorgen? Als je een greintje duurzaamheid in je flikker hebt dan schrap je morgen alle fossiele voertuigen uit je leasevloot maar denk maar niet dat die 40 dat doen. Ik maak voor mijn duurzaamheidsadviespraktijk aardig wat kilometers en die zijn, voor zover mijn plug in het niet elektrisch kan, allemaal afgekocht met ETS-rechten. Kunnen al die bedrijven morgen regelen.

– En inderdaad wat @StefanvanderEijk zei: we moeten geen stip op de Horizon zetten van 95% productie in 2050. We moeten de reductietaak in 33 stukjes hakken en die 95%/33=2,87% reductie die per jaar nodig is wettelijk afdwingen. Over 33 jaar is namelijk 95% van de CEO’s van die 40 bedrijven morsdood en zijn onze kinderen de pineut. Ik wil ze hun portie verantwoordelijkheid zien nemen vóórdat ze met @MinPres op de foto gaan.

– De rol van de overheid moet veel beperkter in plaats van groter : stop alle subsidies op duurzaamheid per direct en kom met een koolstofbelasting die recht doet aan de schade die het veroorzaakt. €250 per ton, ook voor Nuon, Aldel en de KLM. Dan beginnen morgen alle bedrijven en burgers direct met uitstootbeperking en vliegen en zijn we in 2030 klaar.

– En weet je wat het is? Met 40 partijen om tafel vraagt ook heel veel vergaderen en afstemmen en ruggespraak en tussenrapportages en kickoff’s en zo. Daar is een vakterm voor : “Meestribbelen” en dat heeft geen ander doel dan de verandering tegenhouden.

Eigenlijk zegt Rutte het wel mooi en eerlijk: hij wil een grotere rol voor bedrijven. Ik ook, maar dat zijn niet de bedrijven waarmee hij gisteren champagne stond te drinken.

Zullen we nu ophouden met Kodakmomentjes en eens een aardgas en benzineverbod afkondigen? De echte duurzame ondernemers gaan dan Nederland wel toekomstbestendig maken.

 De VVD is zo erg van het padje af dat ik echt niet meer goed weet hoe ik moet reageren. Twee ministers, twee werelden, een Minister President die over ze regeert.

De ene, Minster Edith Schippers, laat haar bodyguards artsen uit het pand verwijderen die dozen dragen die wetenschappelijkerapporten bevatten die bewijzen dat haar pro-rook beleid direct tot doden leidt. Haar marionetten in de de nep- Tweede Kamer melden even later dat de VVD nu aan de macht is en dat er dus beleid gemaakt wordt zoals hun omgelobbyde Minister dat goeddunkt. Wetenschap verboden, uit naam van Philip Morris en hun lobbyisten (Bron)

En vandaag dus voor de zoveelste keer Minister Henk Kamp van Wetenschap:

  
De rechter was klip en klaar: er is geen enkele twijfel dat nu handelen nodig is omdat Shell, Essent en de NAM onze aarde naar de kloten helpen. Maar nu wil Henk Kamp dus een jaar uitstel om te kijken of de eventuele maatregelen niet te veel gevolgen hebben voor zijn welvaart. 

Er hoeft NULKOMMANUL onderzocht te worden. Alles is uitgezocht:

– kolencentrales dicht

– verbod op nep schone diesels

– opheffen importheffing Chinese zonnepanelen

En JA, dat gaat pijn doen, maar beleid maken met gebrek aan maatschappelijk draagvlak, dat zijn we inmiddels van de VVD wel gewend. PGB-drama en zo, weet u wel.

Jullie zijn een maatschappijverwoestende kliek van doodenge Van der G-Foto-leugenaars, onkruidwieders en grootaandelhouderverdedigerd.

Questioning the results of Public Private Partnerships

(translation of Dutch blogpost)

Yesterday Foodlog.nl featured an opinion with the title “Obestitas Public Private Partnership is indeed a success” from food scientist Marije van Koperen. Because the comments section of a blog is the best place to hide an opinion (Dutch piece said “secret”, mistake) we move the discussion to Twitter.

  
Marije uses many many words to tell us a group of social media intrigants question the Obesitas PPP (JoGG) results, worth yet, that Obesitas is a money machine for talking suits. With kick offs, catchy movies, international congresses (Epode) and very expensive offices they keep public money out of the hands of civil groups that want to provide healthy food to children at school. 

Two A4’s and dozens of footnotes are used by this Nestlé employee (and VU University, partner in Epode and JoGG) to say that:

– the matter is complex

– because JoGG works “integrally” this has to work

– they self evaluated and found that they were on the right track.

So much on the right track that it is OK even though the JoGG-method was proven ineffective (Obesitas got worse in neighbourhoods where JoGG was active in Utrecht and Amsterdam) it was OK to send more money into research looking for effects until 2030. JoGG and Epode profile themselves as the “Together Partners” but in reality are’nt they preventing a true “integral method”?

What the hornets on social Media are arguing is that JoGG is a Coca-Cola/Nestlé vehicle to push PPP (public private participation) JoGG-copies worldwide through their Epode network. Because governments are out of ideas (and also out of civil servants to implement) ideas they love to join PPP-tables and large amounts of public money is transferred to what in effect are lingering clubs that have a hidden agenda of delaying effective policies against sugar products. Example of how much industry is mingled with the policy table: the Industry big food/big drink lobby FNLI director Philip den Ouden is also boardmember of JoGG . 

In yesteryear (before BigFood) companies paid taxes and governments hired experts to make effective policies for problems. If you think of how the Tabacco problem was eventually contained by ever increasing taxes, banner policies and campaigns you get an idea of what we mean. But now that new-liberal governments want small public sectors and industry on the helm it is in effect BigFood that is making policies. And so we have JoGG/Epode that prove themselves to be very successful because they self evaluate, or have “independent” (Nestlé co-funded) research showing effectiveness. If results are negative (two recent examples show obesity rates going up in neighborhoods of Utrecht and Amsterdam when JoGG gets involved) the self evaluation reports call for more money for longitudinal research projects. (You need to do our programs for 20 years in order to get measurable results).

Enough is enough.
JoGG and Epode should seize to exist. They’re occupying costly offices in CSO-green washing Firms that also house dozens of “healthy food label programs” and other food policy lingering clubs. And results are not there, nothing, nada, zip.

So is there a way out of obesity? Yes, but it’ll be a shock to many: 

– BigFood Will be removed from all policy negotiation tables

– the funds for JoGG/Epode will be used to hire expert civil servants to research the problem

– results will quickly show that civilians paying at Petrol stations need to do a “healthy choice” Mars obstacle course to get to the counter (remember paying through the window of your car?)

– kids coming out of the classroom walk into CocaCola sponsored vending machines, certified bij Epode to contain 15%  healthier (lower calorie) Candy bars and soda’s (the empty lower left hand option). Who ever allowed this lunacy? 

– “Sugar” in products has been replaced by ultra cheap High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) that, oops, works differently in your body than beet sugar: it is translated into abdominal fat in stead as reserve energy in the liver.

– The research also shows that Nestlé cs have hired “food technologists” that have figured out in billion dollar researcher programs that the right amounts of HFCS, fat and salt can make foods that when consumed actually make you feel hungry, so that you can eat a family bag of crisps without getting sick.

The civil servants look at this mess and unpack some tools from an era long gone: TAX. 5€ for a kilo of HFCS, 1€ for a Candybar.

Heavy measures , but highly necessary for a problem that can only be compared to the problems we once faces with Tabacco and alcohol.

With industry not welcome at the policy table anymore (and a public record of all lobbyist visits to MP’s, including written record of what was discussed) we can finally work on the problems at hand with fresh ideas and fresh budget.
So yes, a small group keeps biting in the pants of the Industry Food Lobbyclubs so that MP’s will ask them “why are there cuts in your jeans”

Waarom de transitie gewoon gaat lukken…accutechniek

Na alle euforie van de afgelopen dagen tijd voor reflectie. Ik heb de resultaten van de #klimaatzaak ook aan mijn internationale netwerk voorgelegd en daar zitten nogal wat kernenergiefans tussen (en dan vooral fans van de nog niet bestaande Thoriumtechnologie). Het punt dat zij keer op keer maken is dat duurzame energie zo’n ontzettend lage dichtheid heeft, dat je enorme oppervlaktes met “zon en wind” moet volplanten om maar in de buurt te komen van zelfs maar 1 kerncentrale. Als je gaat kijken hoe snel je met kerncentrales 100% van je benodigd energie kan realiseren dan lijkt het ook wel erg aantrekkelijk. Maar toch kies ik voor zonne-energie en wind. Waarom?

  

Kernenergie is eigenlijk steenkool 2.0

Je bouwt een paar peperdure centrales (met publiek geld), koppelt die aan het electriciteitsnet en klaar is Kees. Iedereen blijft met handen en voeten gebonden aan energiebedrijven en overheid. Energiebedrijven hebben geen enkele incentive om diensten voor klanten goedkoper te maken en onze Fossiele Overheid 1.0 moet door burgers en rechters op het juiste pad worden gehouden. En dat leidt gewoon nergens toe, het gaat te traag en winsten komen op plekken terecht waar ze nooit meer terugvloeien naar de samenleving. Eigenlijk is het zoals onze Minister van Tegenspraak vanmiddag zei:

Ondanks dat kernenergie ons probleem op zou kunnen lossen kies ik er daarom niet voor. Als iedereen zelf zijn eigen energie opwekt en wat ie overheeft deelt met de gemeenschap dan komen we wél een stap verder. Binnen no time kunnen we alle daken volleggen en bufferen we de energie op zo’n grote schaal dat we samen een megagedistribueerde megakerncentrale hebben.

Gisteren en vandaag troffen twee nieuwsberichten mij als een donderslag:

– opslagkosten gaan naar 100€ per kWh

– opslagcapaciteit verdubbelt binnenkort door grafeen-lithium-ion

Over een jaar of vijf hebben we dus een tafelmodel koelkast op zolder staan waar we de dagproductie van onze zonnepanelen in op kunnen slaan. Hij zal ongeveer 1000€ kosten en zichzelf in twee jaar terugverdienen. Het wordt zo’n totale no-brainer om zo’n ding neer te zetten en aan je zonne-omvormer te hangen.

Voor twee tientjes hang je er een kastje tussen die realtime de actuele stroomprijzen bijhoudt: als de stroom goedkoop is en je hebt nog ruimte dan “download” je wat energie, als de energie rond GTST duurder is dan upload je wat je kan missen. Case closed. Huishoudens worden 100% fossielvrij. 

Als je een beetje snugger bent als energiebedrijf dan bouw je geen gascentrales meer maar buffercapaciteit en wordt je handelaar in electronen. Goedkoop inkopen, duur verkopen. Appeltje eitje.

Als we onze overheid dan ook nog zachtjes Nudgen naar kerosinetax en BTW dan kosten retourtjes Antalja gewoon €1500 p.p zodat funvliegen iets uit de geschiedenisboekjes wordt. Schiphol e.o. wordt weer een fijne plek om te wonen, Parijs en Berlijn doen we met de TGV, reistijd daarnaartoe is met de trein net zo lang als nu met in en uitchecken inbegrepen.

Ik ben echt heel optimistisch over onze fossielvrije toekomst, als we maar durven te investeren in onszelf ipv in centralistische infrastructuur en overheid.

Mededeling van de @MinPres

Landgenoten,

Gisteren heeft de rechter in de zogenaamde klimaatzaak ons een geschenk in de schoot geworpen. Jarenlang soebatten over klimaatakkoorden heeft ons niets geleverd dan drie gloednieuwe kolencentrales, een ramp op provinciale schaal in Groningen en geen baan extra.
Ik heb vanmogen met mijn team een schets op papier gezet van Nederland 2.0 en het goede nieuws is dat we met z’n 17 miljoenen een nieuwe gouden eeuw in gaan.

De rechter legde mij 25% reductie op maar de landsadvocaat heeft het arrest nog eens goed bekeken en volgens hem moeten we voor minimaal 40% gaan om verdere rechtszaken te voorkomen. We gaan dan ook niet in beroep en gaan voor 50% reductie ten opzichte van 1990.

Het moet ook echt anders, niet een klein beetje. We hebben de kaasschaaf in de la laten liggen. En we gaan ophouden met kiekeboe spelen en de innovatiekracht van Nederland aan de wereld laten zien.

De volledige lijst met maatregelen zal morgen in de staatscourant gepubliceerd worden maar de highlights om een snelle forse CO2-reductie te bewerkstelligen zijn:

– op kerosine wordt vanaf 1 juli accijns en BTW geheven als benzine

– alle kolencentrales gaan dicht op 1 januari 2016

– Samen met het UWV gaan we 100.000 echte banen creëeren en komt er een landelijke isolatiecampagne zodat we dit jaar al 10% minder gas gebruiken dan in een koude winter tot nog toe.

Dan kondig ik vandaag ook het project Zeus aan: Vanaf nu neemt de Nederlandse overheid altijd verantwoordelijkheid voor al haar beleid, er zal geen bedrijfslobbyist meer rondlopen in Den Haag, burgers krijgen zelf weer directe invloed waar we met z’n allen naar toe gaan. 

De energie die dit de samenleving inpompt zal leiden tot een explosie van burgerinitiatieven en onderzoeksvoorstellen. We gaan de wereld versteld doen staan door hoe we ons dichtbevolkte landje zelfvoorzienend gaan maken op vele vlakken.

Ik wil vanaf deze plaats de stichting Urgenda bedanken voor deze wake up call. Ik wil jullie bedanken voor het vertrouwen in mij en we gaan als kikkerlandje een groene bladzijde schrijven in het geschiedenisboek van de wereld.

Dutch civilians win their Climate Class action lawsuit….Now What?

Today 900 Dutch civilians, organised by Climate Change action comittee Urgenda (from: Urgence Agenda), won a historic lawsuit against the Dutch state, demanding that the state delivers on its promisses made in Kyoto and EU-treaties. The dutch conservative and neoLiberal parties that have been in charge ever since the turn of the century had so far refused to take major actions to help the environment. The “why disrupt society if there is still some doubt” was accepted by the majority of the parliament all that time.

In 2013 we had enough of it and went to court and today the judge said we were right. So here we are, fresh victory in the pocket and the government flabbergasted. I expect some staring in the headlights from the goverment and parliament, so I guess we’ll have to nudge them in the right direction. Here we go.

First let’s make the judges verdict S.M.A.R.T

“Lower Hollands CO2 output by 25% in 2020 compared to the Kyoto baseline in 1990”. WOW.

CO2 levels 1990 : 161 billion kilo

Emissions in the last known year (2013): 166 billion kilo
Goal 2020 : 1990 – 25% = 120 billion kilo
Reduction goal : 46 miljard kilo, 28% of current emmisions
Reductiondate 31-12-202 = 5,5 years

So that means reduce CO2 emissions by 8 billion kilos per year for almost 6 years

If we analyze the sad numbers from the bureau of statistics we discover that:
– big industry has done nothing in 25 years
– small business has already reached -25% (do they have a business advantage by going green?)
– Coalplants burn more
– Waste incinneraotrs burn way more
– Traffic (driving and flying)
-households do marginally better

So what is the action plan for the next 5 years? 

1. We remove Megacorps from the negotiation tables. They have done NOTHING in the last quarter century but fund extreme right “think tanks” and pay posh firms to greenwash their results. The door is there, bye bye! We will tell you the new rules when we are done.
 Ahhhhhhhhhh……… That feels good, now we can take serious actions
2. The Taxfreetour Apple, Shell, royal family, Nestlé, Coca Cola, Ikea & Co – leaves nothing in the war chest so important national questions (this climate thing is one of them) never got the funding they deserve. The 1%’ers were enjoying the results. Wasn’t tax at one time the national crowdfunding campaign for good ideas? 
3. Let’s start listening to SMB to learn how to really make companies sustainable  
4. Transportation MUST defossilize and quickly too. We have electric bikes, scooters and cars. Now we only have to do busses and trucks and ferries. 
5. Kerosene tax and because 25€ tickets to Costa del Sol are ruining the planet.
6. Building code changes tomorrow: only zero net energy allowed from now on, Passiv-Haus from 2020 onwards
7. Burning waste as a heat source…….poof ….we’ll up cycle from now on
8. Heat distribution networks are based on coal and gas plants  so no thank you. The glasshouse farmers will switch to Geo-heat where that make sense. 
9. New tax on solar panel less roofs (rate based on wasted solar energy)
10. National insullation campaign. We have 1.2 million “non productive” working age people, they’re the heroes of tomorrow when they roll out the insullation program.

So it’s really easy actually: remove Megacorps from policy making, make plans, roll them out, collect taxes from the polluters and the 1%’ers.

Let’s do it!!

Ps. My twitter friends ask me if nuclear is an option, but given the lead times of several decades I think the answer is “no”. I like the CO2-lesness of nuclear, but I believe it’s a fossil solution as it relies on “base load thinking”.

Pps. What is this going to cost? Going to a new renewable society (in the 17th century Holland ruled the world on wind power) is the only solution. I went fossil free for €15k and will write it of in 10 years after which I will save 150€/month that I can invest in my local economy forever. That will change the economy in unforeseen ways, but my gut says that that is better than praying to Putin and Saudi Arabia.

Klimaatzaak gewonnen….. en nu?

De historische uitspraak van de rechter in de KlimaatZaak weerkaatst nog tussen de muren van het Binnenhof en heeft het kantoortje van de Minister President nog niet eens bereikt.

Eerst even de cijfers van de uitspraak als SMART-doel formuleren: Nederland moet de CO2-uitstoot van 1990 met 25% verlagen per 2020. Toink.

Uitstoot 1990 : 161 miljard kilo (Kyoto norm)

Uitstoot laatst bekende jaar (2013): 166 miljard kilo
Doel 2020 : 1990 – 25% = 120 miljard kilo
Reductie doelstelling : 46 miljard kilo, 28% van het huidige gebruik
Reductiedatum 31-12-2020 = 5,5 jaar de tijd, dus 8 miljard kilo minder CO2 per jaar voor de komende 6 jaar.

Als we de bedroevende cijfers van het CBS bekijken dan zien we dat er HELEMAAL NIETS is veranderd bij de grote industrie, de kolenstokers meer zijn gaan verstoken, het MKB al een kwart gerealiseerd heeft (dat mag ook wel eens gezegd worden !!!!!!) huishoudens marginaal verbeterd zijn, afvalverbranders veel meer en dat het verkeer fors meer is gaan verbruiken (rijden en vliegen).

Wat is een plan voor de komende 5 jaar?
1. We stoppen PER DIRECT de invloed van het grootbedrijf op ons nationale beleid. Shell, Hoogovens, Varkensindustrie… POEF, daar is het gat van de deur want U heeft de afgelopen 25 jaar NULKOMMANUL bijgedragen aan de verduurzaming van onze samenleving. Meneer de Boer, U bent niet meer welkom aan de meedenktafel, U hoort nog van ons.
2. De Taxfreetour van Apple, Shell, Koningshuis, Nestlé, Coca Cola, Ikea & Co – waardoor maatschappelijke vraagstukken , waaronder deze, blijven liggen, de boefjes rijker en rijker worden en de vervolgkosten – bij niemand – meer terug kunnen.
3. We gaan luisteren bij het MKB hoe je verduurzaming nou eigenlijk doet
4. We gaan het vervoer DWINGEN om rap te verduurzamen: maximumverbruik voor auto’s, elektrisch vervoer stimuleren.
5. Vliegtax, BTW en accijnsvrije kerosine kan ECHT niet meer
6. Het bouwbesluit wordt morgen aangepast: Nul-op-de-meter is de norm, Passivhaus per 2020 verplicht.
7. Afvalverbranding als “duurzame bron” heeft gefaald. Nieuwe worden verboden, afbouw zodat we de afvalstromen 100% gaan hergebruiken.
8. Uitrol warmtenetten is langetermijnverhaal met zwaar leunen op kolencentrales, laten we onze “energie” slimmer in gaan zetten.
9. Nieuwe Belasting op zonnepaneelloze daken
10. Nationale isolatiecampagne. We leren 100.000 werklozen hoe je isolatie aanbrengt en halveren het gasgebruik in 5 jaar.

Eigenlijk is mijn idee dat als we de grote industrie geen stem meer geven dat we er met z’n allen wel uitkomen, de VVD’ers die zich zo laten beïnvloeden door de Shell lobby, dat is ons grootste probleem.

Going fossil free, putting my money where my mouth is

Shouting for change, angry blogs about political institutions unwilling to act and so on, you know me by now. But in order to have some credibility I need to show that going Fossil Free in order to save our planet is not just a tree huggers dream but a realistic option.

So when the time came that I had to buy a new house I decided to put my money where my mouth had been: I was going to go Fossil Free.

I will disappoint my greatest critics emidiatly : I still buy bread in a plastic bag (although that goes into the plastic recycle bin). I still have a car (although I cycle, train and walk whenever possible) and type this blog on an iPad that heavily relies on international supply chains and energy intensive we services (although this blog is hosted on my personal server running on my own electricity half the day).

Right, the lines are drawn : my household is going carbon free and energy neutral.

I bought a house that had floor heating as main heating, good roofs for PV, seemed well insulated and had room for plans.

 
This typical Dutch house has roofs on West (photo) and East, a garage and a garden of 8×15 meters. It was heated with gas (exhaust pipes on the roof). This modern house has a “heat recycling” system where it sucks the used air from the house, passes it over fresh outside air in a heat exchanger and blows the warmed clean air back into the house. The used air is dumped back out.

I sat down in the price negotiation phase to make energy transition plans:

  
Plans included PV, heatpipes for hot water and heating, moving the heat-exchange pipes to clear the roof. I thought this was all feasible, so I was really happy when I negotiated a good price. Now waiting started for the notary moment, time to go shopping for stuf and deals.

Cooking

I bought an induction stove to replace the gas stove. I started investigating energy suppliers for my renewable energy, I started investigating heat pipes, boilers and PV systems. Than I got hit by a streak of serendipity I guess.

Solar panels 

Being startup Crowdfunder I came across ZelfStroom, a startup offering “Solar Panels for rent”, where you pay the rent with the energy you create. Brilliant idea. I invested in the company, and got a nice discount as investor on another service they sold : full service installation with nice support for PV-equipment, moving service in case you move elsewhere and more. I ordered panels for my west roof.

Heating

That took care of my electricity. Now it was time for hot water. The side wall faces south and I thought heatpipes where a no-brainer. Then a tweep got into a discussion with me, and asked me: what do you do with your heatpipes when the boiler is hot? That’s right, absolutely nothing. You can have a bigger boiler, or multiple ones but it increases complexity and they don’t heat your house on cloudy winter days. He suggested to install an air-water CO2-heatpump, capable of making 65 degree salmonella free hot water, AND run the floor heating at high COP’s. Using the CO2-heatpump I could go to “all electric”. That makes a lot of sense, because if the heatpump is ready making hot water (at the same moment heatpipes would be most efficient) it shuts down and the PV-panels go on making fossil free energy. That made so much sense that I ordered a Sanden AquaEco2

  
It sucks outside air, steals the heat from it (it even harvests heat from air of -20C) and blows out the cooled down air. A bonus in my case: the exhaust air from the heat exchange unit still contains some heat that I capture with the heatpump, improving efficiency 4%. (The aluminum pipe).

So when I got the key of my house the 31st of March I had all plans ready to go fossil free:

– induction cooking

– PV 

– CO2 heatpump 

The induction was installed on day 1, so I never used gas for cooking.

First weeks of April were cold and I used the opportunity to get a feeling for how well the house was insulated. Nights were around freezing, and the house only cooled down from 20 to 18 degrees, without heating. The sun warms the house via the large windows. So I was confident that low temperature floor heating would be sufficient (heat capacity is only 4kW for the heatpump).

Second week of April the heatpump was installed. It went like a breeze and I showered fossil free! Last step was the PV.

15 300 Watt  panels were placed. It works flawlessly, much better than expected, at 8:30 the system (facing west) already produces 300 Watts, the base load of my house. It goes on till 21:00. Can’t wait till another 3 panels get placed facing east, that will give me full day carbon free electricity. 

Now it’s waiting for Elons Energy Wall (looking for a sponsor) to get to a 24×7 self sufficient system.

PS. The 20% efficiënt Autarco panels perform amazingly: this cloudy morning the west facing (so afternoon sun) 4.5kWp delivers 900 Watts at 9 o’clock already! With the 3 panels facing east coming next week my house should be energy positive almost all daytime hours. Looking for a sponsor for Elon’s energy wall

Verwarde man geeft duurzaamheidsprijs aan Shell

Van de redactie – Vrijdagmiddag heeft een verwarde man in Den Haag een duurzaamheidsprijs uitgereikt aan de directeur van Shell. Hulpdiensten die toeschoten probeerden de man duidelijk te maken dat de directeur van Shell net had verkondigd dat onder zijn verantwoordelijkheid alle fossiele voorraden opgepompt, verkocht en verbrand zouden worden waardoor nu zeker is dat onze kleinkinderen een aarde zullen erven die verschillende graden warmer zal zijn dan ooit in de menselijke geschiedenis.

De verwarde man grijnsde toen hij dit hoorde en begon voor iedereen duidelijk hoorbaar “maar het is goed voor de aandeelhouders” te roepen. Vrienden van de man (naar verluid aanhangers van de extreemrechtse splintergroep Volkspartij Voor Destructie) probeerden het de ambulance medewerkers onmogelijk te maken om de gestoorde man tot rust te brengen. Uiteindelijk lukte het om de man met morfine injecties tot bedaren te brengen waarna hij afgevoerd is naar een plek waar hij zichzelf niet meer in gevaar kan brengen. De toegesnelde ME heeft de VVD’ers met charges van het Binnenhof verdreven.

Onze verslaggever vroeg de heer van Beurden, CEO van Shell, om een reactie. “Tja, als je jaarlijks miljarden subsidies afneemt om een opleidingsprogramma voor gesjeesde politici in stand te houden dan gebeuren er wel eens ongelukken. Wij zitten zelf niet op zo’n duurzaamheidsprijs te wachten, ons bedrijf houdt namelijk op te bestaan als de olie op is. Ik denk dat die meneer dacht op een heel makkelijke manier in ons traineeprogramma te komen maar dan rekent hij buiten de waard.”

Pas na zonsondergang keerde de rust terug op het Binnenhof.
